Sunil is a Senior Associate in our London dispute resolution practice, advising clients on high-value commercial disputes, contentious restructurings, and complex data privacy and cybersecurity matters.
Sunil has a broad practice and advises clients on a range of matters, including commercial litigation, contentious restructuring and insolvency matters, and contentious data privacy and cybersecurity issues. His experience includes some of the leading recent Commercial Court and restructuring cases before the English Courts. During his time at Freshfields, Sunil has also spent time on secondment to our office in New York.
Commercial litigation: Sunil advises clients on complex, high-value domestic and cross-border disputes across a range of sectors. He was part of the Freshfields team that was recognised as Commercial Litigation Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2021 for the successful representation of WEX Inc. in a claim concerning a US$1.7bn corporate acquisition and the enforcement of a material adverse effect clause following the COVID-19 pandemic (Travelport Ltd v Wex Inc [2020] EWHC 2670 (Comm)). He has also advised on significant jurisdictional disputes before the English Courts (e.g., Pantheon International Advisors Limited v Co-Diagnostics, Inc. [2023] EWHC 1984 (KB)).

Commercial litigation:
- Acting in a landmark dispute in the English Commercial Court advising WEX Inc on the defence of litigation which concerned whether the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic were a material adverse effect entitling it not to proceed with a US$1.7bn acquisition of two e-payment companies (Travelport Ltd v Wex Inc [2020] EWHC 2670 (Comm)).
- Acting for Co-Diagnostics, Inc in the leading case concerning challenges to the jurisdiction of the English Court in respect of claims relying on CPR 6.33(2B)(b) (Pantheon International Advisors Limited v Co-Diagnostics, Inc. [2023] EWHC 1984 (KB)).
- Acting for Revlon, Inc and Elizabeth Arden in relation to litigation concerning unpaid sums due under a license agreement.
- Acting for an international accounting / audit firm in the defence of Commercial Court proceedings brought against it following the restatement of financial statements (confidential matter).
- Advising a global company providing products and services to the pharmaceutical and healthcare markets in relation to a dispute over the use of intellectual property (confidential matter).
Contentious and non-contentious restructuring and insolvency:
- Acting for Deutsche Glasfaser Group GmbH in relation to its Part 26 Scheme of Arrangement (Re Deutsche Glasfaser Group GmbH [2026] EWHC 1563 (Ch)).
- Acting for TWL and a group of ad-hoc creditors in relation to Thames Water's Part 26A Restructuring Plan in the High Court (Re. Thames Water Utilities Holdings Limited [2025] EWHC 338 (Ch)) and Court of Appeal (Re. Thames Water Utilities Holdings Limited [2025] EWCA Civ 475).
- Acting for ChapelGate Credit Opportunity Master Fund Limited in relation to the Part 26A Restructuring Plan proposed by Project Lietzenburger Strabe Holdco SARL (Project Lietzenburger Strasse Holdco [2024] EWHC 468 (Ch) (Aggregate)).
- Acting for the Joint Administrators of People's Energy (Supply) Limited in relation to its Part 26 Scheme of Arrangement - the first Scheme of Arrangement to address contingent claims arising from a data breach (Re. People's Energy (Supply) Limited [2024] EWHC 1367 (Ch)).
- Acting for insolvency officeholders of a BVI investment fund in relation to a claim in an Investment Bank Special Administration Regime.
- Acting for a sovereign wealth fund and for a global company in two separate ICC arbitrations arising from corporate restructurings (confidential matters).
Data privacy and cybersecurity:
- Advising a multi-national limited company on matters relating to cybersecurity insurance policies.
- Advising a European FinTech on its cross-border response to a cyber-attack, including: (i) working with criminal, data protection and industry regulators in the UK and Germany; (ii) advising on litigation defence strategy; and (iii) working closely with cyber-forensic experts to mitigate risk (confidential matter).
- Advising an independent investment group on its response to a global data breach stemming from a state-sponsored attack focused on collection of intelligence and commercial data relating to U.S- China policy (confidential matter).
- Advising various organisations including global FTSE 100 companies on the legal and regulatory regimes in the US and the UK relating to responding to ransomware attacks and paying ransoms in the context of ransomware attacks (confidential matters).
- Advising various organisations in relation to cybersecurity preparedness / readiness (confidential matters).
